Dichroic glass beads are coated with thin layers of metal oxides. This creates optical effects, color in particular.

Glass beads are normally made at the torch, winding glass from rods around a mandrel coated with release.
It would be possible to buy small clay crucibles and melt compatible colors, say from Bullseye, and scoop them up on a mandrel and use another mandrel to gather bits of other colors and apply them, but you would be working with short rods in front or almost inside the kiln.
