As the first two answers show, there are two meanings for 'dichroic'
Originally it referred to colored glass with microscopic bits of metal (usually gold in solution) which gave it the color red when viewed through the glass. But the same glass, which viewed by reflected light looked green - thus two colors - dichroic.
But when we became capable of putting thin metal coatings on glass in a vacuum, variable colors could be made to appear that depended on the thickness of the coating and the angle of the viewing - like thin spots of oil on water or the colors of butterfly feathers. And it was given the name 'dichroic' in spite of being multiple colors. Because it is thin layers and metal, it has to be handled, heated, and coated carefully. It is popular because it makes bright intense colors.
In beads and blown glass, the color is applied to thin pieces of colored glass which is rolled/worked into the object/bead.
To perhaps further confuse the issue for torch workers, there is glass that changes color with heat that can be used for making pipes, but that change is at much higher temperature than body heat so it does not apply to beads.
